Placid Region/Low-Sec Space
It's a dangerous business, but playing the market in New Eden sometimes calls for trips through low-sec space, at least as low as .1
The Delver shifts easily between hyperspace and the jumpgates, but my hands are still sweaty. A cargo hold full of 2 million isk worth of electronics parts and I'm 4 jumps away from a cool 300k profit. The ship is sluggish under the weight, but still this trip has been fairly quiet...so far.
I way overbought in the silicon market. With the amount I'm sitting on (5 million isk worth), it will take me 10 trips back and forth through low-sec to get my investment, and thus, my profit back.
But so far so good. I'm crossing my fingers that I don't get jumped by a battleship with a cargo scanner. But then again, profits are profits - no?

In space nobody can hear you dream
Gallente Space, Jufvitte System - 0900 hours zulu.

This mid-sec system is sleeping. I leaned back in the con chair, tapping in some intermediary commands. I'm piloting the Delver, an Iteron Series III class cargo ship that I've specially modified to pilot in the .5 systems inside the rim.
She's a sluggish boat. Pushing her, I still max out around150 ms and god forbid I have to turn her around to orient a warp position. Still, this morning orbiting a good sized omber asteroid, she's agile enough to plug away with a modified series II mining laser.
I sip my coffee and monitor the systems comm, nothing. My scanners tell the story, 6 ships of indeterminate class or configuration are in the system, as well as a healthy compliment of CONCORD security vessels. Tell you what, I sure don't like them poking around in my business, but then again, I'm glad they have such a presence in this part of the galaxy.
I'm at almost 50% cap in my cargo hold, my cabin is warmed by the molten ore being tractored in by the laser, even though the hold is almost 100 feet away and reinforced with thermic nano-epoxy plating. I could be out here mining much faster in a customized mining vessel, the company owns several Navitas class ships but frankly, thats just too much moving around for me.
I jarred away from my log, the sensors have done a lockback, basically meaning something has locked onto my ship and my sensors have returned the favor. The only problem is, unless I'm being locked by one of the many asteroids in this belt, I'm not in any position to fight.
This doesn't worry me, Serpentis has a pretty big stake in these midsec systems but still its mostly watchmen and patrols out here looking to challenge anyone trying to mine. I don't get it personally, but then again, in a system like this 10 jumps from home the only thing I need to do is get moving.
The ship shudders, but not by much. I smile to myself and bring up the system holomap. Plenty of other belts to head to, so I pick one and order the ships computer to plot a jump.
Thermal barriers and a Regolith class shield inductor means whatever company I have out there is going to have to pound on me for a while to even touch armor plate on the Delver.
I see it, a Serpentis in a Gallente Velator blipping me with his 75mm gatling laser. I chuckle.
The Delver begins a sluggish turn and points to the next belt. Aura let's me know that the warp engines are coming online. I glance down at the status panel, I'm hit dozens of times by now but the shields hold at 97%. The Delver count probably gen shield faster than this poor sap could take it out, but I don't take risks like that. Not in a company ship anyway.
This guy is still plugging away at my shields when the warp bubble starts to form around the ship. I feel the slightly nauseating internal shift as the Delver slips into subspace and the distance between the Delver and the attacking vessel rockets into AU.
